Spud's Pizza Parlor in Tacoma is a classic pizza restaurant with a distinctly local, no-frills vibe. Its retro, somewhat worn-in atmosphere reflects years of community gatherings rather than modern decor trends, which makes it feel more like a familiar neighborhood spot than a polished dining destination. If you’re looking for a place where the focus stays firmly on hearty, Midwest-style pizza and comforting pub fare, Spud’s delivers in a reliable way.

The menu leans heavily into homestyle options that balance casual dining with substantial portions. Beyond their pizzas—known locally for that Midwest Chicago-style crust and topping combination—they also offer a selection of sandwiches, appetizers like garlic cheesy breadsticks, and classic entrees such as fish and chips or spaghetti with meat sauce. These dishes are straightforward and satisfying, serving well for relaxed lunches or laid-back weekend dinners where the company and comfort food matter more than fancy plating.

Spud’s draws a range of patrons, from families stopping in for a casual meal to folks who appreciate a slice with a little nostalgia. There’s a low-key energy throughout the place, especially in weekends when family karaoke takes over the main dining area in the later afternoon and early evening—something that speaks to its role as a community gathering spot rather than just a pizza joint.

The staff are known for being friendly and accommodating, which adds warmth to a space that otherwise leans toward utilitarian. This sense of local familiarity extends beyond the food; there are stories of staff going out of their way to help customers in need, making the experience about more than just eating. If you’re passing by on a sunny afternoon or early weekend evening, expect a comfortable crowd rather than bustling restaurant noise, making it a place where locals feel at ease taking their time.

It’s worth noting the place has had its ups and downs over time, including some concerns about food consistency with large orders, but recent updates from newer owners suggest an effort to stabilize quality and value. The sweet and spicy fries are a highlight for some regulars, and the housemade sauces and toppings mark an approach that respects tradition without veering into gimmicks.

Overall, Spud’s Pizza Parlor suits those who appreciate food that’s straightforward, well-sized, and familiar, served in a relaxed setting that feels like a communal living room more than a trendy eatery. It’s a spot to drop by when you want a solid pizza experience with a side of local character.

We have always loved Spuds. I drive from Everett with my daughter to enjoy the food. The place is old and not well kept but as long ss food is delicious I don't care what looks like. The shrimp salad and Spuds combination pizza my favorites. I went to Ocean Shores on Tuesday and stop by Spuds. To my disappointment they are closed. It looks like a hard close. Delinquent notices on locked door. Heartbreaking. This is the second pizza place I enjoy that has closed. Economy sucks. Even though they had been raining prices to keep up, still closed. I did check online before stopping but Google said open. Please update your information. I would have made different choices based on this information. Sorry you're in this situation. My parents brought us here from a young age. I've been able to bring my children. It's a great loss to the community.

I've visited a couple times and my first few visits were great when it was a small amount. I had like it so much that I placed a large order (like$300) for a party to be ready at a specific time and when we went to pick it up, it was not even warm. We had to put it in our oven at home to reheat it and it was not good. People hardly ate it and we ended up tossing it out. Pictures/video from a previous occasion, small personal order and why I liked it so much.

Edit for 2024. The menu has been updated and may not be the same. The sweet and spicy fries with Parmesan are crunchy, amazing and some of the best in town. They now do family karaoke in the main restaurant 3 to 7 pm on the weekend. Edit with newer owners. 12/30/22. This place has consistency now and the value of the food for what you get is really good. Here's the menu hack is recommend. Get the garlic bread with sausage on it. You'll be glad you did. Drinks aren't bad either. Happy hour and updated menu are making me want to come back regularly for mimosas breakfast with the kids, that sort of vibe you can't quite get with an old school place like this. The dessert was a little crunchy for a large brownie with ice cream on it, but let's be honest that pretty descent bar back there is what you want when you don't have kids with you......I haven't been here since I was a kid. And thankfully I came back. The bar is why you want to come here. Those sweet honey garlic fries on happy hour for 5 bucks is the real winner here and the good mixed drinks. The pizza isn't really good, but the staff is really nice and they are reasonably priced pizzas that taste better than something from a box for sure. I will be back. Love the atmosphere and a good environment with it's own old school vibe is the way to go. I'm glad the newer owners are taking pride and care of the customers.

Trust me, when I say this is legit Midwest Chicago style pub pizza. My father used to own a restaurant for 30 years. This is as close to his recipe that I have tasted. I moved from there about 20 years ago to move Washington and have been amazed that there is no good pizza out here. The place reminds me of the bars my dad's friends used to own and used to go to to shoot darts after working at the restaurant at a young age. The only other spot is Old School Pzza in Olympia. But that is more like true New York pizza. However at Spuds muahhhhh! Thanks for bringing back memories. Anyone who doesn't like the pizza doesn't know true pizza.. It's even better the next day

Super kind staff and good food. The music was also good too! My car ended up needing to be towed on the Fourth of July so they allowed me to hang out with my things and order a beer while I waited for a friend to pick me up. Staff was friendly and understanding. Super recommend!
